  • Foot and Ankle Reconstruction
  • Arthroscopy
  • General Orthopaedics
  • Worker's Compensation.

Dr Caronis' greatest areas of interest are foot and ankle problems, fractures, worker's compensation injuries and general orthopaedics. In addition to completing a rigorous orthopaedic surgery residency, he received subspecialty training in the area of reconstructive surgery for complex foot and ankle problems. These challenges can include arthritis, deformities, chronic pain, diabetic foot deformities, flat feet, bunions, and neuromas. He cares for children's foot problems, including club feet and intoeing. He also cares for many sports related foot and ankle problems including heel pain, ankle instability, sprains, and tendon injuries using the most modern techniques, including ankle arthroscopy. Dr. Caronis has a great interest in total ankle replacement, and recently completed training in using the new InBone total ankle replacement.

Another great interest of Dr. Caronis' is the treatment of fractures. He is often able to treat many of these without surgery, when he uses various casts or braces. When necessary he is able to repair fractures using the most current surgical techniques and methods, using plates, rods, screws, external fixators, and bone stimulators.

Dr Caronis enjoys performing arthroscopic procedures of the knee on a frequent basis.

Harbor UCLA Medical Center and Balance Orthopedic Foot & Ankle Center welcomed Dr. Caronis for a one year fellowship in southern California. He completed his five year orthopedic residency at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in Springfield, Illinois. Dr. Caronis received his undergraduate and medical degrees from Northwestern University, where he was a member of the six year Honors Program in Medical Education. This program allowed him to complete his undergraduate and medical school education in six years instead of the usual eight years.

Dr. Caronis was raised in Mt. Prospect, Illinois. He and his wife Sheri currently reside in Libertyville with their three small children, Alexander, Sophia, and Katherine. In his rare off time Dr. Caronis can be found at the gym working out. He also enjoys spending time with his family, playing with his children, and working in the yard. Dr. Caronis is the team physician for Grant High School in Fox Lake, Illinois.
